This week we welcome the writer of Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man comics, Ian Flynn! We chat with him about what it’s like dealing with…zealous fandoms, whether he’s any good at Mega Man video games, why you should be into the Sonic comics, working with licensed properties and much more! Plus, we take a listener question about a particularly angry comic-shop customer from Chris’ store-employee days!

I thought the second controller trick with the super high jump was for Megaman 3; at least, I remember you did it through a specific area in Needle Man’s stage. Maybe it worked for both Megaman 2 and Megaman 3?
For more information on Sonichu, consult your local library at http://www.sonichu.com
It gets so much worse than even ED can keep up with.
I was always partial to Bubbleman’s stage, though all of Mega Man 2’s music is great. Also really dug the title screen music for Mega Man 3.
Oh, god, that question asking if Sonic is the size of a human mother is a reference to an infamous video on Youtube, “Guptill89 Presents Top Ten Hottest Female Sonic Characters”. My friends showed this to me a few months ago, it is seriously the most horrified I’ve ever been by Sonic fandom even though it’s Safe For Work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U0apQttNw0
As much as I like the Mega Man 2 music – particularly Mega Man’s theme song and the boss music – most of my favorites are from other games. Elec Man from Mega Man 1, Shadow Man from Mega Man 3, and the first stage of Wily’s Castle from Mega Man 7.
Mega Man X series music has the original series beat, though…well, not on average if you count Mega Man X3, but just counting the good ones it does.
Also – because I will never get the chance to talk about Mega Man again for at least five years – I am kinda surprised no one mentioned Mega Man 3 as a candidate for the best Mega Man game. 2 improved on one and was a classic, but 3 perfected the formula, came up with awesome weapons and designs, made a workable story, and actually threw in tons of innovations you wouldn’t have expected – like Rush the helper dog who made the game more mistake-friendly, and the Doc Robot who could copy the robot masters of Mega Man 2.
I’ve always been partial to The Megas version of Metal Dance. I think what Mega Man songs need more of is the Reggaeton air horn though.
Reggaeton Air Horn Man better be a robot master in Mega Man 11.
I dunno if I’m jaded by too many years of 4chan, but I am not getting why you guys were so perturbed by what I heard in the interview.
Was there a secret part of the interview that holds secrets too terrible for humans to know and stay sane?
I’d love to hear more Tales from the Comic Shop.
Particularly if Sims can bring back his old stories about that one weirdo who would “Do anything, at any time, for any reason”. I vaguely remember laughing like a crazy person at those stories back on ISB Classic.
THE CAPTAIN! That’s what he was called! Had to delve into the archives for that one… I think your new audience deserves to hear those amazing tales.
I love me some Mega Man. My ringtone is the Boss Select music & my text message is the sound when you die. Why am I not reading this comic?
