Neal Adams and Jim Steranko did some very good accounts of what went on back then between Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko along with Julius Schwartz, Bob Kane, and Siegle and Shuster. TwoMorrows republished a lot of their stuff.
I contributed to Van Lente’s kickstarter and have been a pretty big fan of his but after this interview I’m a little skeptical of King Kirby. I believe Kirby’s take of being the conquering hero who came in and saw a weeping Stan Lee cowering in a corner less than Stan’s account of him putting an amazing script for ff 1 on Kirby’s desk.
This is a great set of Every Story Ever picks. Slightly familiar, though.
