Episode 55 – Hairy Lasagna f/ Curt Franklin and Chris Haley

The ban has been lifted! That’s right, Curt Franklin and Chris Haley of Let’s Be Friends Again join us again for a show full of inappropriateness about Crocodile Dundee, Ernest, characters from ’80s commercials, cinnamon, a challenge involving lasagna and a chest, Joel Schumacher and “the bush.” Plus, we talk about today’s big LBFA/Adam Warrock announcement! If that wasn’t enough, Chris and I kick off our big pledge drive!

The Rundown

  • Attention MaxtotheMax: Don’t listen to this episode. For your own good.
  • Play the Episode 55 drinking game! Take a shot every time you hear an awkward pause (and I edited some out).
  • The donate button is right over there in the sidebar, if you’re interested.
  • I apologize for the weird cut right at the beginning of the interview. Not sure how that happened, because when I listened to the rough cut of the interview it wasn’t like that. Anyway, the question that is missing is about how Chris, Curt and Chris all met.
  • In case you were stumped by the whole discussion of Idris Elba.
  • U-Decide! Yo! Noid vs. Cool Spot vs. McKids
  • Chris’s Rec: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (That’s real.)
  • Matt’s Rec: The Larry Sanders Show

Comics Talked About:

  • Uncle Scrooge #400
  • Amazing Spider-Man #653
  • Iron Man #500
  • Avengers: The Children’s Crusade
  • Gingerbread Girl

  1. Re: Sims’ League of Extrordinary 90’s movie stars:
Dundee is the Tremaine equivalent and Ernst is Mr. Hyde’s analog. right? Verne is Jeckyl.

  2. After listening to this, I kinda wanna know how old the youngest listener of WRA is. I mean, MaxtotheMax is 17, I’m 16…there must be some 11 year old out there, right?

  3. I can’t wait to hear your commentary about the Super Bowl trailers.

Captain America, huh? More like Captain Manboobs. Amiright!?! (Seriously, Chris Evans’ pecs are mesmerizing).

  4. Take another look at that DVD cover, and notice that it belongs to the “Widescreen Collection.”

    Ah, beauty.

  5. Just so you guys know, you have a 15 year old listener. He is I and I’m not even a huge comic fan. I just can’t stop listening

  6. Friendship is Magic has claimed even the hard bitter soul of Chris Sims? I mean no one gets a hoof to the face. Do they? I need to watch more episodes.

  7. Personally, I could kind of see Ulysses S. Archer listening to this podcast. He needs something to think of when he isn’t fighting aliens or zeppelins. Cheers to another awesome episode.

  8. Hi, just wanted to thank you for using my questions in this and other recent episodes.

Also, concerning other comics characters who listen to WRA: Tim Drake’s whole deal, at least when he started, is that he so loved the Batman, he became Robin upon deducing the Robin-less Batman was despondent and thus a danger to himself and others. I think that means Tim Drake would be a listener to what is a firmly pro-Batman podcast.

Sometimes, after work, Omega Red pours a drink, listens to the episodes about how scary he was, shakes his head, and says “Those were some pretty crazy days” aloud to his empty apartment.

  9. On the subject of ponies, I recommend the pilot for the 80s show. I think it’s the product of animation studios put together to do G.I Joe and the like being told to do a show for little girls, and not really bothering to switch gears.

The episode was called Rescue at Midnight Castle, and I found it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we6D9roNMp8. The 2:30 mark is where the storm of dragons shows up.

You’ll see the credits say “starring Tony Randall,” and I was really excited to see FelixFizz the pony or somesuch, but he’s probably the worst thing about the show. I don’t want to be too critical, as this is exactly the type of project that a performer of his caliber should phone in. But his “Moochick” promises Yiddish comedy that it never delivers on.

  10. I think comic characters that would listen to WRA would have to be:

Scott Pilgrim (he is a comic reader)
    Boulder/Butterball from Avengers: Initiative
I could see Beast Boy as well.

  11. Gentlemen, if you four ever decide to stage a regular spin-off podcast (spincast?), I’ll be a subscriber for life. I’ll send money too.

Think it over. Me and my crisp $5 – 10 a month can wait as long as you can.
