I think you’re kind of overthinking Groo, either you find it funny or you don’t, which is fine obviously. I don’t really get why it would be for some older generation though. I’m 33 and it was one of my first comics when I was 10 or 11, alongside things like ALF and the Archie TMNT series, so I don’t think you need a thorough background in ’70s fantasy comics or anything to enjoy it. Reading it as an adult, there is more depth to the humor, but not that much more. And the cartooning itself is great, I was tempted by that Artist’s Edition.
