  1. I’m running a few episodes behind, so just maybe you addressed this in a later installment, but:

    I agree that there’s a lot of really rough storytelling in the Lee/Kirby X-Men. It’s worth remembering that those 17 issues introduced the original five X-Men, Xavier, Magneto, and, of course, the entire CONCEPT OF A SECRET RACE OF HUMANS CONDUCTING AN OCCULT WAR FOR THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY (*ahem*). But they also introduced Wanda and Pietro, who almost immediately became mainstays of the Silver Age Marvel Universe.

    I’d rather reread those early X-Men than the Lee/Kirby Avengers or the Human Torch solo book–or, for that matter, the Larry Leiber issues of Thor, which was a rather uninspired Superman knockoff.
