Volume 2, Episode 13 – Sorry, Dudes f/Jess Fink

This week we welcome Chester 5000 XYV (NSFW) writer and artist Jess Fink to War Rocket Ajax! We talk with her about why it’s more fun to draw dirty things, Halloween costumes, how she’s making things difficult for male comics creators, dealing with copyright infringement and much more! Plus, our pals Evie and Aaron from the Awesomed By Comics Podcast sit in as our third chairs to celebrate an upcoming milestone show of theirs!

Also, we should note: We had to redo how we update iTunes, so the show won’t be up there for a couple days (at least, hopefully it’ll be up by then). Sorry for the hang-up.

  1. Ah, Malcolm Gladwell. You start enjoying him, then you question his academic analysis, then you begin to see the flaws in his application of established studies, then you don’t bother with him anymore and stick with the proper exploratory social economists.

But I think the book Matt is talking about is Tipping Point 🙂 (which goes to show that, yes, I went through those four phases with him myself, most admittedly)

  2. My favorite Spector songs are “Chapel of Love” and “Da Doo Ron Ron”. For Beach Boys anything from Pet Sounds and also “Gettin’ Hungry” from Smiley Smile.

Anybody know why The Beach Boys suddenly started popping up on ABC sitcoms in the 90s?

BREAKING BAD! I recommend this to everybody. It’s not only my favorite drama that’s currently on the air but my favorite drama. Period.

It was great to hear Jess Fink on the show. I love Chester 5000 XYV.

  3. Sexiest robot: Gypsy from MST3k
    Honorable mention: Pimpbot 5000

Favorite Beach Boys song: “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”

Favorite Phil Spector song: The Ramones’ cover of The Ronettes’ “Baby, I Love You”

  4. Not to “um, actually” the guest, but Sloop John B” is not written by Brian but is actually a traditional song from the West Indies. Still, their arrangement of it is amazing and her point about his ability to write upbeat & pretty sounding songs with serious subject matter still stands.
On that note, my favorite BB song is probably “Don’t Worry, Baby.”

  5. My favorite Phil Spector song is “Lord if You’re a Woman” by Darlene Love; it’s from the 70s, but you would seriously have no idea. It’s fantastic, but then again, it IS Darlene Love singing. My favorite Beach Boys song is “Let the Wind Blow,” just because it’s lovely. HUZZAH!
